Attending school-related activities is a big part of parenthood. Unfortunately, society has somehow made educational involvement the mom’s “job”. But what if dad wants to participate too? Perhaps you are a single dad looking for a way to get more involved in your child’s life.
Fathers 4 Progress Inc. wants to bring fathers closer to their little ones. So we’re going to share a few handy tips on how you can participate in your child’s education:
- Read daily
Reading age-appropriate storybooks to your child will not only strengthen your bond but will also foster your child’s love for reading and hone their own vocabulary skills. This is why reading with one’s child is something we always recommend to dads under our Fatherhood Program in New York. - Attend parent-teacher meetings
This is often left for the mothers to do, but fathers are more than welcome to join in. These meetings will help you understand what your child is doing in school, how their school contributes to their growth as a person, and perhaps get updates on how your child is doing in their classes from their teachers. - Help them with homework
Helping your child figure out difficult schoolwork will show them that they have your support and attention. This formed trust will make it easier for them to approach you if something big comes up in their lives.
Forming trust is something we cover in more depth in our Fatherhood Training. So if this is something you are struggling with, hit us up.
These were a few handy tips for increasing your involvement in your child’s education. If you’re looking for more ways to become a better father for your child, try out our Parenting Programs in Bronx, New York. Just dial 718-299-6500.
